lebokoso

With this film, Lebokoso, Anthony Bila’s intention was to communicate through the elemental aspects of sight and sound using colour theory, geometric shapes and music to demonstrate the visceral reality of the human condition and its trappings. This, juxtaposed with the human desire for the ethereal, the transcendent nature of our dreams that exists outside of the normalcy and confines of mendacity. We are connected though memory. Throughout the film, he uses imagery and language to evoke memory and blur the instance of present and future employing memory as a tool.

‘What does it mean to be a young human[oid] born into an old frenetic world fraught with technological advancement?’

- Anthony Bila

‘You are born organically,

Existing synthetically

Reality trapped inside the infinity

Existing between death and infancy

Break free and be. You.

Unchain your truth and choose to move.

Move mountains and reach your peak.

Unplug from the system that seeks,

To mould you in it’s image.

Exist without limits.

Resist the critics.

Be you. Speak your truth.’

‘Through the visual language I want to contrast the organic and synthetic, using focal length to create distance or closeness to communicate the contrast in these two realities that exist. It is critical to make the experience feel viscerally intense.’

- Anthony Bila
